Principal Designer (CDM 2015)

Utilising an effective health and safety culture on any construction site is essential. Not only does it satisfy legal obligations, but it also plays a crutial part in completion within the set time frame.

We offer a professional service as Principal Designer with extensive experience of providing these services over a diverse portfolio of sports projects throughout the United Kingdom.

As the Principal Designer for your project, our primary function is to act as the Client’s key project advisor in respect of construction health and safety risk management, and to manage the flow of health and safety information between clients, contractors and designers.

Our services vary throughout the project…

On appointment we shall:

  • Notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) of the project as a whole (initial Notification) and then issue updates as the Principal Contractor is appointed and as any significant changes to the project occur.
  • Inform the Client of his duties under the Regulations, and answer any queries relating to those duties.
  • Conduct an initial site inspection, in order to gain an understanding of the project as a whole, and identify at an early stage any foreseeable hazards which may affect the health, safety and welfare of those involved in the project (including the public).

At the tendering stage we shall:

  • Prepare the Pre-Construction Information Packs and issue copies to all those involved with the design of the facility, and to every contractor (including the Principal Contractor) who may be, or has been appointed by the client. This includes tendering contractors.
  • Assess the competence of tendering contractors, and advise the client accordingly.

Shortly before the construction phase we shall:

  • Liase with the Principal Contractor in relation to the production of the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan.
  • Ensure that adequate arrangements are in place for managing the project – we will advise the client on the adequacy of the management arrangements in place, and inform him if we feel they are insufficient, or any clarification of roles is necessary.
  • Advise the client on the suitability of the initial Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan.
  • Advise the Client and the Principal Contractor of the Health and Safety implications of any significant change in design.

We will also:

  • Co-ordinate the preparation of the Health and Safety File.
  • Provide advice and assistance to the client to enable him to comply with his duties under the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Attend site meetings where necessary.

Upon completion of the project we shall review the information prepared in the Health and Safety File, deal with any errors or omissions, and hand over the final Health and Safety File to the Client.

Our Statutory Duties:

It is a given that in undertaking the role of Principal Designer we will perform all duties that are required of us by the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 including the submission of the F10 notification to the Health and Safety Executive, the production of the pre-construction information and the health and safety file.
